Adding audio announcements

Administrators at all system-login levels can add their own audio announcements, by uploading audio as .WAV files and/or using text-to-speech to generate audio.

Administrators must have the Audio files: Modify privilege to add audio announcements.

To add a new audio announcement:

Procedure

Step 1:
Click Add.
The New Audio File page is displayed.

Step 2:
(Mandatory.) Enter the Name of the audio announcement (up to 100 characters). Any unicode characters are allowed, including whitespace and accented letters. The name must be unique within your organisation.

Step 3:
Enter a brief Description for the audio announcement (up to 250 characters). Any unicode characters are allowed, including whitespace and accented letters.

Step 4:
To use text-to-speech to generate the audio, do the following:

  • To enable text-to-speech, tick the Text-To-Speech checkbox.

Note: Text-to-speech may be powered by one of two Text-To-Speech (TTS) systems, depending on how your Contact is configured at installation: either MaryTTS or Nuance.

  • (Mandatory.) For Language, select the language from the dropdown list.
  • (Mandatory.) For Voice, select either Female or Male from the dropdown list.
  • (MaryTTS only. Mandatory.) For Pitch, move the slide to define the degree of highness or lowness of the voice used for the announcement, in relation to “normal” speech. The range is -100% to +100%. To raise the pitch (higher voice), move the slide rightwards (up the scale). To lower the pitch (lower voice), move the slide leftwards (down the scale). Female voices tend to be higher-pitched than male voices.
  • (Mandatory.) For Tempo, move the slide to define the speaking rate of the voice used for the announcement, in relation to “normal” speech. The range is -100% to +100%. To make the voice faster, move the slide rightwards (up the scale). To make the voice slower, move the slide leftwards (down the scale).
  • (Mandatory.) For Text to convert to audio, type in the text that you want converted to speech (up to 100 characters). Any unicode characters are allowed, including whitespace and accented letters.
  • To hear what an announcement with the current settings sounds like, click:
